Here it is, folks, in all its glory! The new Hofner Ignition Violin Bass in a beautiful sunburst finish. I’ve looked it over and it is perfect, much brighter than the old one. And the pearl is white, not yellowed which probably happened from playing in all those smoky bars! As I wrote in an earlier post, the pickups are now Humbucking brand!
Another improvement they made is the fret markers on the side of the neck. My old one didn’t come with any. So I had to drill tiny holes and then drop some white paint in them (probably something the Antiques Roadshow guys are not going to like!).
I love the new hard shell case which will be great for traveling; very handy when it’s time to fly to Arnolds Park for the IRRMA Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Updated 4/17/14: If anyone has a Hofner and needs short scale round wound strings in the gauge that will fit this bass, buy them from Sweetwater. They are the Rotosound round wound RS66S for the swing bass!
