For some reason I never thought to look for the book, “Acid Archives”, which had been mentioned by some of the Silver Laughter reviewers; that is, until last week. I ordered a copy I found online and will impart those reviews to you of both Silver Laughter albums as well as one of The Contents Are: first album, “Through You”.
Here is the first of those reviews of “Handle With Care” found on page 225 of the book. Though I disagree with some of the reviewer’s comments, he does have some valid comments on weak points in the album which I have mentioned in other articles on this site. One is the cohesiveness (or lack of it) of the album as a whole. However, all in all, it is a pretty good overview of our first recording effort.
I particularly like “…their songwriting is strong, the singing excellent… there’s a reasonable amount of variety in their songwriting…”. What is meant by the last line “…geeky wanna-be pop stars with 70’s hair…” I have no idea. After all, wouldn’t 70’s hair be appropriate since a) we had it and b) it was the 70’s. Perhaps I will look up the author, Aaron Milenski, and see if I can get him to clarify!
