Note: Here is a personal message from Dain written August 1:
Hey friends!
Our new album, “Paper Street” drops today! Search for ‘The Silvers – Paper Street’ wherever you stream or buy your music.
We are very happy to share this with you and hope you enjoy it. You can stream it on all the major streaming platforms, and if you want to own it, both the CD and digital version are available to buy over at https://revlisrecords.com.
Let’s talk about streaming. It’s great right? It’s really convenient, you get access to a huge library of music, and you are able to discover artists you’d not heard of and give them a listen without committing to purchasing an album.
But something that I really need to share is how little we, and other artists, make from each stream. We’re not in this for the money, we’re in it to share our art. But it does cost us a fair chunk of change to make an album – rehearsal time, studio time, having CDs produced, paying the engineers who record, mix, and master it, maintaining our instruments and equipment, not to mention all the time that is spent conceptualising, writing, rehearsing, and recording these songs, *and* all those years of learning how to play to begin with. Below is a table showing how much each stream pays – if we want to get anywhere close to just breaking even on how much we spend on making an album, then that’s *a lot* of streams that need to happen!
Streaming Platform/Average Payout per Stream
- Tidal – $0.01284
- Apple Music – $0.008
- Amazon Music – $0.00402
- Spotify – $0.00318
- YouTube Music – $0.002
- Pandora – $0.00133
- Deezer – $0.0011
Don’t get me wrong, I stream too! But when I truly love an album and an artist, I will buy the artist’s music in physical form. I want to see the artwork up close, and to be able to actually hold the album. I want to put money in the artist’s pocket rather than the CEOs of Spotify, Apple, Amazon, and YouTube (they really don’t need it as much). There’s also a lot of work that goes into making those album covers too! So if you stream our stuff, and you love it and support us, please consider buying a CD or even just a digital copy. This is art that we’re offering to you! Don’t own a CD player? Buy one anyway! It will cost you about the price of a pint or a nice cup of coffee. They look great on display too!
Even if you decide not to buy it, thanks so much for listening to our music!
