This song, “Turned & Walked Away”, was originally a poem by drummer, Carl Upthegrove, written about a toxic relationship from his past. He and guitarist, Dain Bedford-Pugh, worked together to come up with the melody and chord changes. Mick Orton added some harmonies and played bass.
This number was sung by Dain. Carl vowed not to sing it! His comment was, “Nobody wants to hear me sing.” The song ends with a run up on the guitar and then a parting drum shot! Thanks, Carl!
Turned & Walked Away
(Upthegrove & Bedford-Pugh)
I should have just, I should have just,
Turned and walked away.
I should have just, I should have just,
Turned and walked away.
I believed what you told me,
I loved the words you’d say,
But those words were laced with poison,
Now I wish I’d walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have, turned and walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have,
Just turned and walked away.
Darkness came on slowly, Like the setting of the sun.
Darkness all around me, I knew that I should run.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have, turned and walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have,
Just turned and walked away.
Time was on our side, every day was new.
All the clouds were gone, and the sky was clear and blue.
Instrumental:
I woke from a dream to find, The thing I most dread.
You didn’t know the truth from lies, I knew our love was dead.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have, turned and walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have,
Just turned and walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have, turned and walked away.
Yeah, I should have, Yeah, I should have,
Just turned and walked away.
