THE SILVERS Bringing People Together With “Cross The Line”

Cross The Line

This song from the RUSHMORE album was a product of serendipitous effort on behalf of Original Silver, Tom Kelley, and Mick Orton. Tom sent the lyrics over in a poem he had written. As it happened Mick had a tune that came to him one morning after waking up around the same time. Drew Youngs sang the chorus and scored all of the instrumentation as well as mixing and mastering the tune.

The current Silvers lineup, Steve Farac, Dain Bedford-Pugh, Carl Upthegrove and Mick Orton were working it into the live set when the Covid lockdown happened closing all the venues.

Now we have all the turmoil going on and would like to offer the lyrics for everyone to think about.

Cross The Line
(Kelley-Orton-Youngs)

You don’t have to like me that much, you don’t have to care,
You don’t have to please me, or tell me life’s unfair,
Not with you on your side and me on mine,
Let’s come together, cross the line.

I’m tired of all the anger I see, tired of all the strife.
Can’t we come together, and have a happy life?
Not with you on your side and me on mine,
Let’s come together, cross the line.

Life is short, time goes quickly by,
It seems like just a second or a blink of an eye.
When it’s all over,
We know we kept the good inside.
Cause love is the answer,
We know we’ll always cross that line.

We’ve got more in common, you see, than we have apart,
We should find a reason, to make a brand new start.
Not with you on your side and me on mine,
Let’s come together, cross the line

Instrumental

I sure don’t know how we got here, really I don’t care,
And we need an answer, that has to lead somewhere.
Not if you’re on your side and I’m on mine.
Let’s come together, cross the line. (oh, oh, oh, oh)
Not if you’re on your side and I’m on mine.
Let’s come together, cross the line.
