Click on the link above to hear Silver laughter perform a cover of the Grand Funk Railroad hit. Jon and I trade vocals on the versus. And Ken can’t help but add his guitar flourishes even though there were none on the original!
In addition to Beatles songs and the tributes we also did some cover songs by other groups who were popular at the time. Grand Funk Railroad had been big in the very late ’60’s and then disappeared (sort of) for a few years before putting out a few more hits. This is one of the popular songs that usually went over big in clubs we played. However, judging by the lukewarm response at the end, it had to be a slow night in June, 1978 at The Ranch and Company in Port Byron, IL.
The picture shows the lineup of musicians who played that evening and is an outtake from our 1976 Worthington photo session with Art Stenstrom behind the camera. With everyone squinting is there any question why we didn’t use this one?
