I wanted to post a couple of tracks that were already done elsewhere on this site. Previously I put up an outtake of “I Can’t Believe In You” and wanted to compare it to the finished track from the “Sailing On Fantasies” album.
Here is the outtake version.
Here is the studio version.
See how the song morphed over several months of recording. The vocals are the biggest change I can hear. The outtake also seems slower and has less energy. I don’t remember dumping the ooh’s in the chorus, but it was a good decision. They do not fit the feel of the finished product.
The photo is from the Rock Island session taken at the end of October 1978 after the “Sailing On Fantasies” album had been released.
