A photo from the back of the album cover for “Sailing On Fantasies”. We were in downtown Worthington, MN during a summer parade. From left: Paul Staack, Ken Wiles, Mick Orton and Jon Ludtke. The two older gentlemen never saw us… didn’t care and didn’t move much even after we left.
This is the last of the outtakes that I have in my possession from the “Sailing On Fantasies” album. The title of the album itself was a play on words. The original working title was “Sailing Ships On Fantasies”, but we decided to shortened it. The idea was to combine Sailing with Fanta SEAS without misspelling the word. I am not sure how many people got the pun, but we liked it.
Here is an outtake of “Don’t Feel Bad”. I hear horns and even the hand claps. Once again I am not sure what is missing from this version, but it didn’t make the album. The nub of the song came to me while I was shaving one day. It was inspired by Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel”, but ended up much bouncier and much more upbeat. When Jon and I were arranging it, we were thinking The Beatles “Tell Me Why”, but our song did not have the edge that both Elvis and The Beatles had in their recordings. Still, it is a good song and very catchy.
If you like the LIVE original songs or the outtakes, remember, there are CD’s, LP’s and some 45′s of our studio work for sale here!
