“Grey Cloudy Skies STUDIO Version”
Here is the studio version of “Grey, Cloudy Skies” recorded at Columbia Records in Chicago by The Contents Are: where we also recorded 3 other original tunes. The song was written by me shortly after I joined the band. On these tracks, I play bass and over dubbed keyboards. I also sang lead which was double-tracked with background vocals by Craig Hute and Dave Neumann. Craig played rhythm guitar, Dave on lead fills and Paul Staack on drums. It is my memory that the project was underwritten by one of our managers, a John Galobich (pronounced Gal-a-bick). The only reason I remember his name is because Paul used to say, “Get on the stick, Galobich,” about getting us a record contract! Paul was a funny guy and was always coming up with something!
To me, it sounds my vocals seem uninspired and totally lacking in emotion. I like the Silver Laughter version from “Handle With Care” much better. We sped it up a little, and Jon double tracked the lead vocal with me. The piano riffs are also a little more robust on the small electric piano that traveled with us.
