This afternoon I spoke for quite a while on the phone with Kim Ludtke who was celebrating Christmas Eve at his parents’ house in Davenport, Iowa. As usual, they were waiting for brother, Jon, to show up, so I never got to speak with him. But Kim and I had a good conversation and traded a few stories. Turns out 3 out of 5 of Silver Laughter band members ended up working in computers.
Kim was writing assembly language for an aircraft defense company, Ken worked mainframes and AS400 operations for a few financial institutions and I was everything from PC trouble shooting, technical services manager for a small computer company and finally, contract IT project manager for companies like Charles Schwab, GE Capital and Wells Fargo Bank.
This evening I had dinner at a huge gathering down the street from our house where Ken Wiles’s first son, Sean, had also been invited. Sean did not get the music bug like his dad did, but he’s a nice young man who works for my ex-wife’s (Sandy) husband’s plumbing company.
Seems like the longer I am alive, the smaller the world becomes. It was wonderful to meet up with friends and family for a fantastic dinner and discussions. We are very fortunate to live in the Bay Area.
