Almost Forgot “Any Words You Can Say” from Silver Laughter’s “Handle With Care”!

“Any Words You Can Say”

In my haste to re-post songs from our two albums for the new readers, I forgot to put up the first song on the A side of “Handle With Care”. In my mind this is one of the more unique songs in our original repertoire. To my ear it doesn’t sound anything like what I have heard before or since. But that’s just me. The only thing I think it needs is a more solid bass drum on top of the excellent drumming Kim did on this album. It would give it a little more drive… in my not-so-humble opinion!

The photo comes from the Worthington collection which features many poses. Taken in 1976, right before our first album was released, Kim had just decided to leave the band, and Paul had just joined us. The lineup on this tune is Jon and Ken on guitars, Kim on drums and me on bass. I do believe all of us participated in the vocals. I am singing lead which is double-tracked after we decided the harmony part sung by Jon did not fit. During live performances Jon and I sang the lead together, something we learned from our dear friends, the Beatles.
